Mental Questions and Answers

Do I have ADHD?

First off, I'm not sure if I have ADD or ADHD(If I have either) because I'm not sure the difference.

I never thought of myself as ADHD when I was younger but once I got in junior high it seems like its a big possiblity. Everyone my age(teens) can sit still for a while but I can't! Even when I go to church I need something to entertain me because I can't just listen to someone. I have noticed I am sort of messy and my room is cluttered(as hard as I try to stop it)! One more thing, I feel like I act too young for my age. I can't pass up playing with a new toy if I see it or fixing one of my doll's hair! I don't really play with toys but I love them! I think I would play with them if it wasn't for the pressure of everyone telling me not to.

By the way, I'm not completely crazy and hyper all the time. I actually think I have depression now! I really, truly do. Is it possible to have ADHD and depression? I don't think my mom will take me to the doctors.
Answers: The difference between ADD and ADHD is usually the H, the hyperactivity. People with ADD often seem to be the opposite of hyperactive, they are sometimes even described as hypoactive. All the activity is going on in the head, for a person watching them it might look like they are just sitting around doing nothing for hours. ADD is now officially called ADHD the inattentive type.

Mood disorders like depression very often go hand in hand with ADHD, actually they are more common in people with ADHD than in people without, so it is possible that you have both.

I would recommend a very active online forum www.addforums.org They will be able to answer many of your questions!
oh you have ,both

but you can try the test online , im sure you will past
and depression , is a by product of ADHD
YOU MITE GROW OUT OF THIS
but demand you mum takes you to the doctors today
It's more common for boys to have ADHD. I don't think playing with toys is a bad thing. How old are you?

Anxiety can make you depressed. Talk to your mom about scheduling an appointment for you to talk to a counselor.
Balletbaby - The initial symptoms you describe do have the sound of ADHD, but more information would be needed to definitely make such a diagnosis. Are you having any trouble in school? Did you have any behavior or emotional problems when you were younger (ADHD diagnosis usually requires that there be symptoms prior to age 7)?

In answer to your other question, it IS very possible to have both ADHD and depression. Also, sometimes depression can look like ADHD, especially in kids and teens. I would recommend you talk to a school counselor as a first step. He or she should be able to help you better understand what's going on.

What have YOU done to control your Binge Eating Disorder?

I realize that this is a sensitive topic, and many people may not even realize they have this disorder, but if you've learned ways to help control it I'd really appreciate your insight. I lose track of what I eat and how much, and it wasn't until recently that I realized I had a problem and that it's starting to make changes in my health.

Did you seek professional help?
Do you have methods of keeping track of the eating that have helped you reduce it?
What else have you done to control the issue?
Answers: I write every bite down. I don't have trigger foods in the house. I think about it before I eat. If I am hungry between meals, I eat nuts, celery, plain lettuce, carrots. I do not eat carbs because I crave them.
There is NO SUCH DIAGNOSIS in DSM-IV.

Your state board of licensed professionals would be VERY INTERESTED in knowing who diagnosed you. Such quacks should be disciplined.
Keep the amount of meat, eggs, and cheese down, eating more vegetables, fruit, legumes, and grain products. Use what money you get to buy plant sterol enriched margarine & yoghurt; also skim/low fat milk. DIETING: Go to: h t t p : / / c h o o s e d i e t . b l o g s p o t . c o m (typing it this way bypasses the Yahoo! automated censors) and select one, possibly changing, later. Eat 6 - 8 small meals, daily, with a little protein in each, preceded 20 minutes earlier with a large glass of water. Snack on any amount of celery sticks, with the occasional carrot stick, and/or slices of cucumber, tomato, or raw onion, in any vinegar (a little salt & pepper/chilli powder is OK, but no oil, or sugar! Rinse your mouth with water, later, if using vinegar). Check out www.ediets.com Understand and accept that many people use food in an attempt to fill an emotional void, which is unhealthy, and never works. Others eat out of boredom, so have plenty of things to keep you occupied. Sometimes I use www.stumbleupon See http://emotionalhealth.ivillage.com/... and http://www.foodaddiction.org and http://www.oa.org/index.htm and http://www.webhealth.com/wiki/eating_dis... and http://www.edreferral.com and http://www.fatloss4idiots.com Call EDAP on 1-8OO-931-2237. Also view hypnotism for weight loss (if fairly suggestible) at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on page 60. Some of the above should help.

I have a weird question ?

I have a strange question . It's about stages of losing weight and my memory .

i don't know how to simplify it but i'll try.
i put on some pounds over the past 7-9 years .Now following proper healthy diets and exercise . i am 25 now .
This is the delimma .
whenever i am losing weight lets say i lose 5 pounds that takes me to time in my life when i was that weight ( 5 pounds lighter ) ..and i get the same feelings and sensations i had when i was at this new weight , when i was young .

Now lets say i lose 10 pounds ( same thing ) , I feel the same sensations and feelings i had when i was that many pounds lighter , when i was young .

What is this phenomena called ? I have never heard anyone talk about this or asked about it till now . I think an answer would really help me . It will really make my day. Has anyone else felt this way ? What is this called? Why am i feeling this way ?
Answers: Its a self regression that you are doing. I was sure that is what it was when I was reading your question, but then I called my mom and she confirmed it. (She is a hypnotherapist). Anyway, the best way that I can explain is its a form of self hypnosis. The average person goes through hypnosis 2-6 times a day. Example: Have you ever been reading a book or watching a movie and you are aware there are other things going on around you but you don't notice them? Or have you ever driven somewhere or done something and when you got there or finished, been like "wow, I didnt realize I was doing/I did that?" Thats hypnosis. Its the same thing that you are doing, but more in depth. People will pay lots of money do do past life regressions and life regressions. They do it to figure things out and maybe to get some answers. (Answers to fears, release of painful memories, remembering things that happened to them as children.) Anyway, you are really lucky that you can do this on your own. Its an amazing phenomena If you want to talk more about it, email me at baby_majiclove@yah00.com. I love talking to people about these things!
I think it's just because you are the same size as you were back then. You have the same mobility the same energy. I don't think there is a word for it. It's a little bit like when you smell a certain soap and you feel the way you did years ago when you used it.

I have all kinds of things like that. Especially with scents that put me in the place I was when I used to smell it a lot. (I've lived in different countries.)

It's just the miracle of the brain. They say everything you ever experienced is in there (bar any brain damage) the only difficulty is in trying to retrieve it at will.
I've read about this. I think it was in a book called, "The Taboo Scarf" by a therapist. He was helping a woman who had a lot of weight to lose, and every time she lost some, she would go back to the feelings she had at that weight. So, this has happened to other people. I believe it will go away after about three weeks. You have to deal with the things that caused you to gain the weight, whether it's emotions or feelings or something else. Good luck!

Drug addiction?

I'm in college. i just quit wow. (it's a drug, i swear!) now i'm bored! i want to play it again! what do i do? i need some entertainment. Don't say study cuz it's not necessary everyday yet! i need something to do so I don't go insane! i live in kansas so there's not much to do around here! i was thinking about getting a girlfriend, it'll make me happier and fill a void in my life that wow did (ironic, i was lonely, so I played wow, yet it didn't make me any more social!) what can I do for fun?
Answers: get involed in your favorite intrest or join a club

and Like I said before:

GET WOW OFF YOUR COMPUTER AND OUT OF YOUR STSTEM.

AND LOOK IN A MIRROR AND SAY THIS TO YOURSELF

"I WILL NOT PLAY WOW" as many time as you can
volunteer? that doesn't sound like fun, but it actually is.
work out and get in shape?
Hi :) My bf plays wow, I know how addictive it can be :) Why not call some friends and go out? watch movies? just get your mind off of the computer ! If you don't have much friends to hang out with, you could join a sport or activity group. Do something you like. Really. Anything's better than that video game;) After some time passed with friends, you'll see how much youve missed being social and how rewarding "real life" can be:)
"Grats" for leaving! :P you've done the right choice.
Get a Netflix account and watch movies when you're bored. This is good, especially at night when you might want to play around with drugs.
You can also play with other things in your life. It's fun to mess with your sleep cycle. Look into polyphasic sleeping.
Play a sport, play other video games that don't require 6 hours of gameplay a day.

I used to play wow, daily, 6 hours + almost minimum. Trust me, it's an addiction, and its all for the best. I'm getting more into football, got a job, and overall...just having more fun in life.

70 war 70 rogue, trust me, it was fun but it is EASILY much better not playing

How can i tell if i have bipolar disorder...please help me...i need to know...im only 16?

Answers: See bipolar disorder, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on page 10, and take the test: if positive, use the result to ask your doctor for a referral: EXPERT DIAGNOSIS REQUIRED!
Do you often cycle between episodes of feeling manic, then depressed? If so, you may have bipolar disorder. Do be officially diagnosed, you must meet certain conditioned as listed in the DSM-IV, a book doctors use in mental health. I will provide you with a link that lists the symptoms of bipolar disorder, straight from the DSM-IV. Good luck, please see a psychologist if you feel this is affecting your life negatively.

http://www.fortunecity.com/campus/psycho...
You can kind of "self diagnose" here: http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/publicati...
If you read that and still think that you might be bipolar, tell your parents and/or go to a doctor immediately. This disorder can get out of hand very fast if you don't get help.
These 2 sites here will tell you all the signs and symptoms of bipolar disorder. And if you have any concerns then you need to talk to your doctor and have some testing done. Good luck and best wishes.

Do you have periods where you don't *need* hardly any sleep for a minimum of one week straight to months? Do you have close relatives with bipolar, schizophrenia, or recurring major depression? If the answer to either of these questions is no, it's very unlikely that you have bipolar.

Talk to your parents and get an evaluation from a psychiatrist or a psychologist if you are concerned. It's rare that someone can self-diagnose, and online websites might provide a little education, but again that's not a diagnosis.
You first go to your family doctor and tell him/her what you've been feeling like. Bi-polar, aka as manic depressive, is a tough ride if you don't get help. The doc will hopefully refer you to a psychiatrist and get you on medications. Bi-polar symptoms can include, manic stages where you can be very hyper, don't need much sleep, feels like an extreme high, nothing can stop you. You also have a down side, and being bi-polar it can fluctuate from the highs which is the "manic" stage, to the lows (mood swings), which is depression. Sometimes you mind won't shut down, you have racing thoughts, and with that can cause insomnia, and on the other hand, you might sleep all the time. It Can be very hard to concentrate, sometimes hard to understand the easiest of directions. Changes of appetite is sometimes another symptom, along with no energy. Hope this helps. Please don't take anyone's answers to diagnose yourself, because it's best to get a doctors view, and they can really help. Bi-polar disorder isn't that uncommon anymore, and you shouldn't ever be ashamed of it, if you are. GL

What causes ADD ?

I was watching this video and this doctor almost seem to Blame the kid for "having" A.D.D . What causes ADD , i know it has to do Only with the way the kid was raised , because No Kid would have all the symptoms that A.D.D kids show without it having to do with a survival value added to it ( in other words , it was a survival technique they acquired when they were infants )

Any comments ?
Answers: well i'd be happy to answer that. wait hold on while i do something else.
What are the causes of ADD?
There are many different causes and explanations for the symptoms of ADD including diet, allergies, food intolerances, low muscle tone, anxiety, depression, family problems, poor discipline and even some forms of illness.

Unfortunately some doctors and therapists do not do a thorough assessment and simply prescribe potentially harmful psychiatric drugs without considering what the causes the problem might be.
Perhaps you are missing something. Do you believe that Down Syndrome and other forms of genetic developmental disorders have "Survival Value"?

There are many, many inherited and non-inherited genetic diseases that hold no "Survival value" (or; survival value that is in no way identifiable by the individual, as in the case of Sickle-cell anemia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sickle_cell... Most of these diseases are inherited through a recessive gene or through a random genetic mutation. There are many scientific studies that show that ADD and ADHD are, at least in part, inherited disorders.

In addition, although it has not yet been statistically proven, a number of studies have identified pockets of higher than average concentrations of children suffering from ADD and ADHD near chemical disposal sites and near high voltage power fields.

ADD is not simply a behavioural disease. Specific brain and nerve differentials have been identified in individuals suffering from the disorder via MRI (see links). There are physiological differences between those suffering from from ADD and those who are not afflicted.

Feeling hopless, how do I deal?

My anxiety is killing me! My boyfriend, yet again didn't come home. He usually comes home late recently, but tonight, not at all. He has been acting strange, so I am almost positive he is cheating on me. At least he always comes home. Tonight, no call, never came home, he has to be up for work in 3 hours. I am sad, pissed off, and really worried. I am having a terrible panic attack like I have never experienced in my life. My heart has been beating out of my chest for 2 hours, even after taking an entire xanax bar. Nothing helps. Any suggestions. I have tried to meditate, but cant concentrate. I have no where to go if I leave him, which I definately need to do. Any suggestions? Please help!
Answers: Talk to your doctor prescribing you that xanax and tell him that although you feel SOME anxiety is relieved you do not feel ALL of it is, if at all possible. Tell him you are still having panic attacks and see what course of action he recommends. Insofar as your boyfriend cheating on you my advice is to not do a Hillary Clinton I stand by my man but to just put your foot down, kick him out, or leave him, although I am not like Dr. Phil or a relationships expert by any stretch of the imagination. Hope everything works out for you, God bless, and hope you start to feel better soon. Goodnight.
when he does come home, and you see he is OK, throw him out!

Ever think about just giving up?

Have you ever been in a bad place mentally and felt that it would be easier to just "give up"?

I'm in that place right now and have been there for a while. Other than my wife and son, feel like there's no reason to go on.

Luckily, those are 2 good reasons keeping me around.

Any help or advice anyone can provide on getting through this?
Answers: The Huggy says..you need a kit kat bar!
Sounds like a little bit of depression. Maybe you are a bit overloaded with work, bills etc.

Besides the obvious of seeing a counselor, maybe try exercising. It can do amazing things for the mind! Seriously. Go for a brisk walk or ride a bike.

Don't let this go too long because it can get worse. I know most men are very stubborn about seeing a doctor, but I think that your wife and son a very worth it and deserve a husband and dad that takes care of himself. If not for you then do it for them. They need you very much!

I hope that you are able to share your feelings with your wife. It's not good keeping it all inside.

Good luck and don't give up! Life is too good to let go (even when you don't think it is good at the time)

Take care and good luck!
Welcome to reality. First, you need to know that it is completely normal to feel overwhelmed. This indicates that you are not the only one that is experiencing this. So, don't think that you're alone.

There are certain time in one's life that you feel like all forces are against you, and that everything seem to go wrong. everyone has a limit to what they can handle.

If you believe in the higher power, you can just give it up to him. Your hands are tied and you leave the rest for him.

Remember this. accept the things that can not be changed, and be brave to change the things that you can change. Best luck!
Whenever I feel like life is in the way too much to "go on" so to speak...I let myself "give up" for an hour.I lay in bed, or read a book or something having to do with NOTHING..and after that hour I make myself just focus in on the immediate things I CAN control -not the things I can't...

It really helps me refocus I guess. Some times its so easy to focus on the issues we really have no control over..like what is going to happen next month when I don't think I will have enough money to pay the phone bill...well that is a month away...focus on the bills due this month...focus on getting dinner ready tonight. Take it one day and one thing at a time.

I really felt that after I had my daughter, who is now 13 months old. I didn't bond with her right away and people kept asking me if I thought "I would ever love someone so much." I had no idea what they were talking about for like two weeks, and thought I was going crazy. I had to make myself take an hour to do nothing meaningful and then focused only on the tasks at hand... then it clicked for me.

I still use that method now when life gets too overwhelming.
My husband went through this and took up tennis again. He's now on 2 different leagues and couldn't be happier! You may be overworked. Is there a hobby that you can do for YOU?

If you are feeling at all suicidal, you should see your family doctor. I know that men don't like to go to the doctor but you can make an exception this time. I bet if you asked your wife and son, they would say that you're worth it.
Sup,Mr.Timeflo? I heard you and I feel you, at least I did at one(1) time or another. Man, the things that I could tell you,but this is not about me. This time! Now, don't write this down or anything, because I'm no body's authority on anything. I know a little about everything and a whole lot about nothing.(smile) Listen, let's see if any of this makes sense. Sounds to me like you might have misplaced your self-worth. Look around, it's there. If you can pick your head up long enough, just ask the man in the mirror "what he thinks?" You've already told us that your son and wife keeps you grounded. Now just get back focused. And if all else fails, just go have a talk with {*GOD}, or whomever/whatever you call your higher power. I'm betting on you, so keep your head up. Anything beyond that, you should seek professional advice. Good luck!

What is the average dose prescribed daily for lamictal?

my son is 18 with bi-polar Dr. prescribed 100 mg daily. Average dose ?
Answers: well I have been on lamictal for just about a year (i am 16 but started when i was 15) and right now i am on 200mg but they are increasing it as the weeks progress, it depends on the severity of his symptoms, starting off at 100 (for his age atleast, they had to start off with alot less for me since i was 15) is pretty normal, it will be increased if he needs it but its a good starting point, who knows, he might not even need that much, good luck with everything (=
The therapeutical dose for Lamictal is 200 mg. It is not acknowledged in the medical field, as of yet, that a higher dose has any impact.

BTW, start slowly on a very low dose and gradually work your way up. That is the correct method to acclimate yourself to Lamictal.

Depression just gone?

i've been a little blue for the past couple weeks and the other night i prayed and asked that i feel better. then the next morning i felt better. i consider myself and atheist and unsure why i prayed is this god or the placebo affect.either way i feel lot better
Answers: The most important thing is that it worked for you! I am glad you are feeling better regardless of your religious preference. You were able to cope in a healthy manner and feel better. Good for you!
i passed out during a baptism ceremony ( i used to go to angilican school ) i had blurred vision and everything i heard sounded metallic and my body was paralyzed for a bit... im athiest too... but i always think of if it could be some religeous experience... maybe an underlying cause went away that made you depressed and you didn't notice it but it's gone now and your happy? i had depression many years ago over a relationship and it went away out of the blue... im not sure if its a religeous experience or whatever but many things happened to me in religeous cenarios... good luck

maybe something similar will happen to you soon and you'll know for sure?
Well just tell the Doctor that your depression gone they might stop taking the anti depressive. That pass to me.

I want to cut?

im tired of hitting my wrist with a rubber band i just want to cut i dont what to do so tell what to do
Answers: Take care to understand what you are doing.
Hope you've researched cutting.
Cutting releases a chemical stimulant. Just like any chemical u may be addicted to that chemical stimulant.
Like a heroin addict.

Also you should explore into The Great Man Theory.
IDK y u are asking to be told what to do, but u seem to find comfort in that. U should seek 2 understand that 2.
The Great Man Theory offers an explanation.

Keep in mind that there are many ppl in this blog who have these depressive needs. Before you ask please take care 2 look at other's solutions
Don't cut.
It's just hurting yourself, and every time you look down at the cut you'll be reminded of the emotional reason you cut yourself, making you feel worse. It's just not a good thing altogether.
Whenever you want to cut yourself, just do something else that lets you take your mind off it.
You don't say whether or not you have had this compulsion before or if you have ever acted on this. Please, please, please don't do this! Cutting won't solve your problems and will just add something else you have to deal with. You probably already know you need some help here, and I pray, (for real) that you will find someone willing to listen and offer you the help you need.

If this note sounds insincere, I apologize, as I have 2 children next to me and it is sad to say, but if I would have acted on all the things I considered when I was younger, I would have never seen these two boys! I promise, I went through some horrific times in my 20s and 30s and what I wish I knew was the following: Many of my problems I compounded with wrong actions and reactions. Instead of dealing with the real issues I covered things up with more STUFF. I still CRINGE at some of the bad choices I made and still feel SHAME that I was SO mixed up. Someone kindly pointed out that I had become a professional "victim" and only I had the power to turn things around to be a "victor." My friend handed me his business card with 3 scriptures on it and I almost laughed in his face, thinking, 'yeah,' that is all you have to help me?' Eventually, I became so messed up and had nothing left to try...so I opened up an old Bible...and started reading the New Testament. Then I found that business card with those references on it. Eventually, I got it...that even my pain, heartache and problems...they could be used for good...if I turned my life around. But I had to make the first step.

Maybe your first step will be different. I had to hit ROCK BOTTOM before I even considered the Bible. Sad, but so true...

I don't want to sign off...I just want to give you some hope...and there is hope...

You can avoid all of this. I won't preach here, but I do ask you to at least give someone the chance to help you, whether it is a minister, a friend, a trusted relative...someone...reach out and GET the help you need. Don't do it!

Your note makes me SO SAD. Please, please, don't hurt yourself. Whatever you are going through will pass, and you will get through this.

I am praying...
im going throughh it and dont try to start cuz u wont be able to control it and people will start to noticee and they will open there mouths to everyonee.

You should consider seeking professional help, if the self-help methods have not proven to be effective. Together with antidepressant medication, psychological help in the form of psychotherapy is an effective treatment for depression. You may receive psychotherapy from a phychiatrist or psychotherapist.

Different forms of psychotherapy work in different ways. However, they have certain things in common. They help the person to define and work toward goals and to identify any impediments in reaching those goals. Depending on the training and background of the therapist, you might be taught to practice relaxation techniques when you start to feel irritable. A common used type of psychotherapy in the treatment of depression is cognitive-behavioural therapy.
