Alzheimer's : How to comfort someone to transport the right numbers of pills at the right time?

Hello, my grandmother has a form of Alzheimer's disease. My grandfather has been putting her pills within a weekly tray. Today she took three tray's worth: three days. She ended up in the hospital because she took too many pills. I'm wondering if even one bin would be would be too much to create sure she took the right meds.

My grandfather has to work, finances are tight so they can't hire a nurse. Any ideas? Has anyone been through this until that time?

Can your Grandfather make conversation to someone at your local Alzheimer Society? They have good advice, and can really back your grandfather out.
Is there a family member who can check within on your grandmother during your grandfather's absence?
He should just leave out that days meds, and lock up the rest of them.
Don't leave the whole week's worth of pills where she can take to them. Lock them up if you have to. Put out only her pills for that day.

It may be basic to find someone that can stay with her during the day. As the Alzheimer's progresses, she will not be able to be gone alone.

Check with your local Senior Citizen Center. In many places they will provide help for someone near the disease. These services are usually low cost or free depending on the situation.

Good luck to you. My mother also has the disease, I know what you are going through.
Amazon.com sells an electronic pill reminder made by Timex. It was like $10. It have helped my dad a lot. It can be programmed for up to 4 times a day, and have 4 boxes. You have to fill it daily though. But you could also newly use it for the timer part, and still use the tray you have now or anything.
There are automatic medication dispensers that might assist you. You enter the time the pills needs to be taken, how many, etc. and the machine automatically dispenses the right dosage at the right time. Here's a place where on earth you can find more information about that type of product:
