EVERYONE HAS ADDICTIONS NOT ONLY TEENS. THE WORD TEEN IS OVERRATED. IM IN MY 20'S AND DON'T FEEL ANY DIFFERENT.
Well firstly do you know the methodical definition of an addiction is?

It is a maladaptive behaviour where a person chooses to verbs to use a substance (or whatever) despite the fact that their use is causing damage to their line, friends, their health, their job and/or school, even have legal problems (it does not have to be all of that). So contained by the most technical way, addiction is about a way of life. Addiction is not physical dependence (that can happen in chemical addiction but it also happens when nation take certain medications long possession and do not abuse them). So keep that in mind. If a being does drugs or alcohol and their life in not negatively impacted it is unlikely they are an addict.

Now wager on to your question-

Teens that I have worked with often hold an "addiction" to facebook and to massively multiplayer online games (MMOG). Games especially can really take over a persons life. People who are video hobby experts can even believe they are characters in the game and start to talk and work like them. Facebook appears to consume a lot of peoples time, which they often should own used for other things (work, school, study, friends). And I am noticing more and more younger people doing laying a bet online and loosing thousands but still not stopping. Eating is really becoming an "addiction". I am sure you know of NA and AA well there is also OA (Overeaters Anonymous), where overeating is treated approaching an addiction, just as alcohol, amphetamine, and heroin are. And some people really do destroy their lives beside food and then they eat more to feel better- classic addictive behaviours. I don't muse shopping, texting, or masterbating are even close to an addiction for most people, but some people do get "addicted" to their phone and obligation to always have it, thus the name Crackberry (from Blackberry) be formed. But shopping is the most "destructive" of the three.

And yes, drugs are abused by many teens. But I would say that only a small few are if truth be told addicts. Most people go through a phase, or experiment a bit, or use drugs close to many people use alcohol. Instead of having 10 drinks a few times a year some society do some ecstasy or get some of their dad's OxyContin and mix it with their own Ativan to win high. I certainly think drugs is a foremost problem but addiction effects people at every age equally. But teens do abuse drugs more than other age groups, but rarely form an addiction to them.

I would also enunciate that YouTube, Email, TV/Movies, clothing (both shopping and an obsession with) can become an "addiction."

Personally I really do not have an addictive personality. So I own not gotten to involved with anything to excess. Even the many prescription medications I bear and have taken (narcotics, benzo's, stimulants- all of which I take immediately for legitimate medical problems) have never really been outstandingly fun or gave me a high. But I know many society that would abuse the meds and I have had to hide from view them from a few friends Source(s): I am a medical student at a research university in Montréal for both psychiatry and internal medicine. I have a specialist scope (Hons. BSc) in pharmacology with a focus on psychopharmacology. I have interned underneath two psychiatrists, one neurologist, and at a chemical dependency rehabilitation centre. In addition I have worked as a pharmacy assistant.
shopping
texting

drinking

Sleeping and computer (though not facebook) were my only luminary "addictions".
